Japan coach John Kirwan has admitted that his side were overpowered by Tonga earlier today.

The Tongans claimed their first victory of the World Cup in Aukland, recording a 31-18 win over Kirwan's men.

After the match, Kirwan admitted that Tonga were "very physical".

"They put incredible pressure on us and were very physical over the ball," said the coach. "We had too many errors and turnovers."

Japan's final game of the tournament is against Canada in Napier next Tuesday.
