Colin Gregor: 'Barbados win exactly what we needed'

Scotland sevens captain Colin Gregor says that the win over Barbados was "exactly what they needed" following their narrow defeat to New Zealand in Glasgow.

Scotland sevens captain Colin Gregor has said that their comfortable victory over Barbados this evening was "exactly what they needed" following their earlier defeat to New Zealand.

Scotland were narrowly beaten by the All Blacks in their Commonwealth Games opener, leaving them needing wins in both of their final games to guarantee a place in the top two of Group A.

They completed half of the job with a 56-0 triumph over Barbados, and now the hosts will now face Canada in their final match of day one, with the winners progressing into the medal rounds tomorrow.

"It was exactly what we required. We knew we had to come out and impose our game on Barbados," he told Sports Mole.

"We were hugely disappointed with the New Zealand result, [but we] took a lot of positives from that and worked on that in the Barbados game. A couple more things to work on and we'll be ready for Canada.

"We had to be professional, we had to give Barbados the respect they deserved. But we know that we're a quality team and we play some quality rugby, so it's about imposing ourselves on the opposition. There is always room for improvement. We'll keep striving to get better."

Scotland are due to face Canada at 9.04pm tonight.
