Sean Lamont wants Scotland to tone down their attractive rugby and produce an ugly win over Ireland in Dublin.

After a run of four games without a try, Andy Robinson's Scotland have now scored three in their last two matches.

Despite their attacking improvements, the Tartan Army have still lost all three of their Six Nations fixtures in this year's championship and Lamont thinks that it is time to get back to basics.

He told The Express: "There is a lot of frustration because we have been playing good rugby, but just not getting the right result.

"Maybe sometimes we play a bit too much rugby in the wrong areas. It might be nice to watch but I'd still take an ugly game with a win than a pretty game with a loss. Winning makes it a damn sight easier.

"It's just about the balance and decisions on the pitch at the right time. Hopefully we will get the balance right against Ireland."

Scotland claimed a 23-20 victory on their last visit to Ireland in 2010.
