Finn Russell frustrated as 'mistakes' cost Scotland against France

Scotland fly-half Finn Russell admits that his side gave away too many penalties during their narrow defeat to France in the Six Nations.

Scotland fly-half Finn Russell has said that ill-discipline cost his side as they narrowly lost to France in their opening Six Nations game in Paris.

Scotland scored the only try of the match through Dougie Fife, but French fly-half Camille Lopez successfully kicked five penalties that were gifted to them by the visitors.

Russell told BBC Sport: "Really disappointing not to get the win. We had a lot of chances but just didn't manage to get the ball to hand. They played well. We gave away too many penalties and Lopez kicked well.

"It was a good try to score before half time. If we'd have come back out and backed it up we could have won the game but we made too many mistakes and gave too many penalties away."

Scotland face fellow week-one losers Wales at Murrayfield next weekend.
