Adam Thomas eyes Commonwealth Games medal

Wales rugby sevens captain Adam Thomas insists that winning a medal is a realistic target for his side at the Commonwealth Games.

Wales rugby sevens captain Adam Thomas has insisted that winning a medal is a realistic target for his side at the Commonwealth Games.

Reigning champions New Zealand are the overwhelming favourites to pick up the gold once again in Glasgow, while England, Australia and South Africa are also expected to battle it out for a place on the podium.

Wales are expected to progress as one of the top two from their group alongside Samoa, which would likely see them face either England or Australia in the quarter-finals tomorrow.

However, despite the fierce competition in front of them, Thomas believes that his side are capable of finishing inside the top three at the Games.

Asked whether a medal was a realistic target, Thomas told Sports Mole: "Yeah definitely. If we get through then the quarter-final will be against England or Australia - teams that we've beaten in the past - and that will be a battle really.

"You always set the target as a medal when you play for Wales so that's our target."

Thomas scored two tries as Wales thrashed Malaysia 52-0 in their opening match at Ibrox today.
