Ronnie O'Sullivan has added yet another major to his collection with a 10-7 victory over Ali Carter to win the Masters.

In a duel between two players who do not get on, a rowdy crowd at Alexandra Palace were greeted to an entertaining spectacle, Carter leading for large parts of the contest.

However, world number one O'Sullivan won seven of the final eight frames to win this tournament for the eighth time in his career.

A high-quality opening saw the first four frames shared, with both players hitting a century apiece, before Carter returned from the interval to post a 122.

Carter remained in the ascendency in the sixth and eventually rattled up a 5-3 lead heading into the evening session in the capital.

That advantage was extended to three frames once the players returned, before O'Sullivan showed his class by reeling off three in a row.

Back came Carter who made it a record-breaking ninth century of the week with a 127 to move 7-6 up, but it did not prove enough to derail O'Sullivan even though he was not at his majestic best.

A break of 89 took him to within one of the finish line, before he converted at the first opportunity to end a seven-year wait for another Masters trophy.
