Australia's Sally Fitzgibbons moves to the top of the women's surfing world tour rankings after Carissa Moore falls behind in California.

Australia's Sally Fitzgibbons has moved to the top of the women's surfing world tour rankings.

Fitzgibbons moved to the top of the pile after reigning world champion Carissa Moore was beaten in the fourth round of the Swatch Women's Pro at Trestles in California.

Prior to the seventh event of the tour, Fitzgibbons, who will face Bianca Buitendag in the quarter-finals, was 200 points behind Moore.

There are three events remaining on the world tour.
