England's 4x100m medley relay men's team beat Australia by the finest of margins to win the gold medal at the Commonwealth Games.

England's 4x100m men's medley relay team edged out Australia by the finest of margins to win the gold medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games.

The team of Brodie Williams, James Wilby, James Guy and Tom Dean finished with a time of 3:31.80, as Dean fended off the threat of Kyle Chalmers on the home straight.

Dean had previously been forced to settle for six silver medals at the Games before taking gold with the team, as Australia won silver with 3:31.88 and Scotland's 3:35.11 was good enough for bronze.

Prior to the medley relay, Dean had finished 0.13 seconds behind Duncan Scott in the individual 200m medley, as the Scot set a new Games Record with 1:56.88.

Elsewhere on Wednesday, there was another gold medal for England's Ben Proud in the 50m freestyle, his third successive Commonwealth title in the event, as Lewis Burras took second place.

There were also some notable results for Northern Ireland in the pool, as Bethany Firth won her nation's first medal of the 2022 Games with victory in the women's 200m freestyle S14 final.

Compatriot Daniel Wiffen also claimed a silver in the men's 1500m behind Australia's Sam Short, as Luke Turley won another bronze for England before their third-placed finish in the 4x100m women's medley relay behind Canada and champions Australia.
