Mark Foster believes that Team England's Ben Proud was "in the zone" to break the Commonwealth Games record to claim the gold medal in the 50m butterfly.
The 19-year-old won his country's first gold medal in the pool of the Games as he triumphed in a time of 22.93s, which beat Foster's British record.
He told BBC Sport: "I'm a bit gutted Ben Proud broke my British record, but it had stood for long enough I suppose. It was a very mature swim, he just got everything right and he was in the zone.
"He will get stronger and there is lots more to come from him."
South Africa's Ronald Schoeman and Chad le Clos finished in second and third place respectively.
