Fran Halsall 'enjoyed' competing against Cate Campbell in 100m freestyle

Fran Halsall says that she "enjoyed" going up against Australia's Cate Campbell, who finished faster than the Brit in today's 100m freestyle heat.

England star Fran Halsall has described competing against Australia's Cate Campbell in the 100m freestyle heat as "phenomenal".

The 24-year-old finished second fastest in the heat at Tollcross this morning, behind Campbell, who secured a time of 53.20 seconds.

Halsall returned to the pool after winning gold and setting a new Commonwealth record in the 50m freestyle final last night.

"I've got toothpicks keeping my eyes open this morning!" Halsall told reporters. "That was pretty good actually, I really enjoyed that. To swim next to Cate in a 100m freestyle is just phenomenal. Just cruising at 53.20, that's what dreams are made of. It's absolutely just incredible to swim against.

"For me, that swim was pretty good this morning, I was pretty happy with it and it was just to get the job done and make sure that I'm ready for the 50m butterfly tonight."

Halsall, who won seven Commonwealth medals in Delhi in 2010, has scooped gold and silver so far in Glasgow.
