Andrew Willis: 'Winning 200m breaststroke bronze is step in right direction'

England's Andrew Willis believes that he has made a "huge step in the right direction" after scooping a bronze Commonwealth medal in the 200m breaststroke final.

Team England swimmer Andrew Willis believes that he has taken a "huge step" forward by securing a bronze medal in the 200m breaststroke final at the Commonwealth Games.

While Ross Murdoch's gold-medal victory over Michael Jamieson has taken the headlines, Willis was able to earn his first senior long course medal in a time of 2:09.87.

"I would have liked to have been quicker than that, obviously that's what I train for, but it's a huge step in the right direction," Willis told reporters.

"I've got the 100m tomorrow - it's not my event, but I'm going to go for it, it's something that I can improve on. An international medal is something that I've always wanted and I can't take this lightly."

On day one of swimming, England scooped four medals, Scotland grabbed three, Canada have one to their name, and Australia lead the way with seven medals.
