Russian swimmer Polina Egorova has admitted that the team were expecting to win the gold medal in the women's 4x100m medley event at the European Games in Baku.

The 15-year-old swam the butterfly leg for the Russian Federation team this afternoon, helping them take their gold medal tally to 58 for these Games.

Egorova, who now has three golds, told reporters: "We have strong team work and we are all together. We are also friends and this makes us stronger.

"All the Russian fans in the stadium were screaming and that also helped us. We were relaxed. Our coach told us we needed to win. We expected to win after the heats this morning. We were sure."

Egorova has also won gold in the 200m backstroke and 4x100m freestyle relay.
