Team GB's Adam Brown bowed out of the men's 100m freestyle at London 2012 this morning.
The Cambridge-born swimmer never posed a threat to the fastest sprinters in his heat, coming in seventh with a time of 49.20s.
Brown was seeded in a swift heat that included Brazilian world champion Cesar Cielo, who could only manage fifth, but still made the last 16 with a time of 48.67s.
Nathan Adrian of the United States put in a hard graft and clocked up that fastest time of the heats, 48.19s.
Australian's James Magnussen, another pre-tournament favourite, also made the semi-finals with a finish time of 48.38s.
The men's 100m freestyle semi-finals take place at the Aquatics Centre this evening.
