Quigley reaches 100m back final, Simmonds fails

Great Britain's Lauren Quigley has grabbed a place in the 100m backstroke final at the World Championships in Kazan, but teammate Elizabeth Simmonds has missed out.

Quigley finished third in the first semi-final in 59.71 seconds, which resulted in an eighth spot in tomorrow's showdown alongside the USA's four-time Olympic champion Missy Franklin.

The 20-year-old will race in lane five on Tuesday after she slipped at the start of her semi-final before touching the wall in 59.42s.

Simmonds finished her race in 1:00.40, which was the 13th-fastest time overall and not enough to earn a spot in the final.
