Team GB swimmer Ben Proud has taken fourth place in a highly-competitive men's 50m freestyle final.
The 21-year-old Commonwealth champion finished with a time of 21.68s, 0.19s behind Team USA's Nathan Adrian, who claimed bronze with 21.49s.
The US also had top spot on the podium as 35-year-old Anthony Ervin edged out France's Florent Manaudou by just one hundredth of a second to become the oldest ever Olympic champion in the pool.
Last night Proud had qualified for the semi-finals by setting a new British record of 21.54s.
Earlier this week Proud missed out on a chance at competing for a medal in the 100m free, dropping out of the event at the qualifying stage.
