Great Britain's James Guy has missed out on a place in the final of the men's 100m butterfly.
The 20-year-old was bidding to get himself into the mix in an event that features some of the biggest names in the sport but he failed to repeat the level of performance that he produced in his heat.
He reached the halfway stage ahead of Michael Phelps, who had just claimed his 22nd gold medal at the Olympic Games in the 200m individual medley, but he was left behind as the American moved himself into contention.
The 31-year-old eventually finished in second behind Laszlo Cseh but Guy was only able to finish in seventh position.
