Team GB's Ben Proud reaches men's 50m freestyle final

Ben Proud breaks the British record as he qualifies for the final of the men's 50m freestyle at the Olympic Games.

Great Britain's Ben Proud has reached the final of the men's 50m freestyle after a superb swim on Thursday night.

After impressing in the heats, the 21-year-old earned himself a place among the middle lanes and he was quickest out of the blocks in the second semi-final.

Proud was caught by both Andriy Govorov and Anthony Ervin but he managed to hold on to third position in order to guarantee himself a place in the final.

He progresses through as the fifth-fastest qualifier, but there was a huge surprise as Australia's Cameron McEvoy missed out after finishing in seventh place in his semi-final.
