Ellie Simmonds has set a new world record on her way to gold in the 200m individual medley event at the Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.
The 21-year-old became the first ever swimmer to go below the three-minute mark in the SM6 classification group with a final time of 2:59.81.
At the halfway point, Simmonds was sitting in fourth place but powered on with her breaststroke to lead the pack come the final stretch, edging out China's Song Lingling by almost 3.5s.
The medal marks Simmonds's seventh Paralympic medal and fifth gold and represents a defence of the title she earned in London four years ago.
Simmonds's triumph came just minutes after veteran teammate Sascha Kindred topped the podium in the men's version of the event.
