Croatia's Ana Zaninovic: 'I was not at my best in final defeat at European Games'

Croatia's Ana Zaninovic believes that she did not do herself justice in her defeat to Jade Jones in the final of the women's -57kg taekwondo at the European Games.

Croatia's Ana Zaninovic has admitted that she did not perform to her best in her defeat to Great Britain's Jade Jones in the final of the women's -57kg taekwondo at the European Games.

The 27-year-old was forced to settle for the silver medal after she lost the gold-medal match 12-9 to Jones at Crystal Hall in Baku.

She told reporters: "I'm satisfied with the silver medal. I would have liked to stand on top of the podium with a gold medal around my neck.

"But even though I lost, the final showed that I'm in the right form and that's a good sign for the upcoming period that will decide the qualification for Rio [2016 Olympic Games], which is my big goal.

"I felt asleep sometimes during the final. It's too late for competing at this time. So I took some kicks I shouldn't have taken."

Croatia have won five medals at the Games.
