Siblings target taekwondo medals

Germany's Tahir and Rabia Guelec insist that they can both push for medals in taekwondo at the European Games in Baku.

German siblings Tahir and Rabia Guelec have insisted that they can both win medals in the taekwondo events at the European Games in Baku.

Tahir won bronze in the men's -80kg category at the recent World Championships, while Rabia is also a former World Championship medallist in the women's -67kg event, and older sister Suemeyye is also a two-time Olympian.

Tahir told reporters: "The success of our family is probably genetic. It is rare that three people from one family have so much success and our younger brother is coming up, too. My sister is very well prepared. I think the gold medal should be her goal."

Rabia added: "It does not matter if one of us wins or loses, we are always behind each other. Everybody has highs and lows, we accept that, we do not let ourselves get down. We stick by each other and step by step our family is achieving everything together because we believe in ourselves.

"I think that he can do it and win the gold medal, because he has everything he needs for that. The best thing would be if we get two medals, but we should get one medal here."

The pair are both scheduled to compete on Thursday.
