Andy Murray's run at the 2022 Swiss Indoors has come to an end in the second round following a straight-sets defeat to Spain's Roberto Bautista Agut.
The 35-year-old lost 3-6 2-6 in one hour and 40 minutes, despite earning the first break of the contest in the third match after Bautista Agut had missed four break points in the previous game.
Bautista Agut broke back straight away before Murray missed the chance to level the contest in the seventh game, with a spate of unforced errors costing him his chance of a crucial break.
The Spaniard won three games on the bounce to seal the first set - fending off two break points from Murray in the ninth and final one - and it was a similar story for the Brit in the second set.
After being broken in the first game, Murray went 40-0 up and had the chance to level the second set at 2-2, but he squandered those three break point opportunities as Bautista Agut held well.
Three aces followed for the three-time Grand Slam winner in the next game, but he could not keep the momentum going as Bautista Agut won the final three games again to advance.
Murray took just one of his eight chances to break on the day and won just 22% of points on his second serve, and he was the second Brit to lose on Thursday after Cameron Norrie was knocked out of the Erste Bank Open in Vienna by Marcos Giron.
