Great Britain's Jack Draper made a statement of intent on his return to the ATP Tour as he eased past Nuno Borges in round one of the Winston-Salem Open.

The showdown with the Portuguese marked Draper's first top-level match since the French Open, having been forced to retire from Roland Garros with a troublesome shoulder injury.

Draper made his competitive comeback at last week's Winnipeg Challenger event - reaching the quarter-finals - and he showed no signs of rustiness on Monday, seeing off Borges 6-3 6-1 in just 55 minutes.

The 21-year-old taught Borges a lesson in serving excellence on the day, firing 11 aces compared to none for the Portuguese, who racked up four double faults in a match to forget.

Two of those double faults from Borges came on break points for Draper in the first set, which the Briton wrapped up with just 28 minutes on the board before Borges lost his serve in the fourth game of the second set, ruing yet another double fault at the most inopportune time.

Draper continued to capitalise on the Portuguese's mistakes, winning five games on the bounce en route to a second-round tie with Dutch second seed Tallon Griekspoor.
