Dan Evans falls to a three-set defeat to Felix Auger-Aliassime at the Australian Open, ending Great Britain's hopes of a singles title.

Great Britain's hopes of a singles title at the 2022 Australian Open have been extinguished following Dan Evans's third-round exit to Felix Auger-Aliassime in straight sets.

The 31-year-old had seen off David Goffin in straight sets before a walkover against Arthur Rinderknech, but Canada's Auger-Aliassime was a class above in the third round.

Evans fell to a 4-6 1-6 1-6 defeat at the John Cain Arena, with the Brit unable to regain control of the contest after falling behind in the closely-fought first set.

With a solitary ace compared to Auger-Aliassime's 16, Evans could only muster a 58% win percentage on his first serve on the day, compared to 91% for his 6ft 4in opponent.

Auger-Aliassime will now prepare to meet either Andrey Rublev or Marin Cilic for a place in the quarter-finals, but GB are still represented in the men's doubles by Jamie Murray and Brazilian teammate Bruno Soares.
