Roger Federer books his place in the third round of the Australian Open due to the withdrawal of Andreas Beck before their second-round match.

Roger Federer advanced into the third round of the Australian Open on Wednesday after his German opponent Andreas Beck withdrew due to injury.

Beck was due to face Federer in a second-round clash but the 25-year-old failed to recover fom a lower back problem.

Third seed Federer will now enjoy a longer break than his rivals for the title before playing his third-round match.

The former world number one will face either Ivo Karlovic or Carlos Berlocq in the next round.
