Grigor Dimitrov has suffered a surprise defeat to Jerzy Janowicz in the second round of the Cincinnati Open.

The seventh seed lost the opening set 4-6 as he struggled to combat the Janowicz serve, but he fought back to take the second 6-3.

Janowicz raced into a 3-0 lead at the start of the decider, though he squandered three match points at 5-3 up on the Dimitrov serve.

However, the Pole refused to go away and finished with a love game to earn a 6-4 3-6 6-3 triumph.

He will now face either Julien Benneteau or James Ward for a place in the quarter-finals of the tournament.
