Johanna Konta has recorded a straight-sets win over Dominika Cibulkova to reach the quarter-finals of the Cincinnati Open.
The British number one suffered an early exit in Canada last week, but the Wimbledon semi-finalist continues to get some much-needed match practice ahead of the US Open after claiming a 6-3 6-4 triumph over Cibulkova.
During the opening set, Konta claimed two breaks of serve to move closer to a spot in the last eight, but Cibulkova was having plenty of joy on the seventh seed's serve and always remained competitive.
However, after squandering a couple of opportunities to move a break ahead in the second, Cibulkova allowed Konta to regain the momentum and the 26-year-old was eventually able to seal victory in one hour and 42 minutes.
The success sets up a showdown with Simona Halep, whom Konta defeated in an epic encounter at SW19 last month.
