Jo-Wilfried Tsonga has overcome Marin Cilic in the first round of the Cincinnati Masters.
Both men fell to eventual winner Novak Djokovic in Montreal last week, Tsonga retiring due to an arm injury at the semi-finals while Cilic was out at the third round.
The Frenchman’s arm held to take both sets, finally holding 40-0 to win 6-3 6-4.
Tsonga will face American qualifier Alex Bogomolov Jr. in the second round of the competition.
