Argentina's Leonardo Mayer has recovered from a set down to beat Dan Evans and end Great Britain's hopes of retaining their Davis Cup crown.
The world number 114, replacing the injured Juan Martin del Potro for the deciding rubber, came out on top 4-6 6-3 6-2 6-4 in Glasgow to bring an end to Britain's thrilling comeback.
Britain had trailed 2-0 following a disappointing first day of action on Friday, but hope was restored when Murrays Andy and Jamie claimed a doubles victory on Saturday before Wimbledon and Olympic champion Andy earned a singles win to level the semi-final tie up.
Attention then turned to Evans on Sunday afternoon as he faced off with Mayer but, despite taking the opening set with the only break of serve in the third game, the 26-year-old was unable to push on.
Mayer held serve in the remaining three sets to claim a big win for his nation, despite a mammoth 12-minute opening game in the final set going the way of his opponent, which proved to be a false dawn as Argentina got over the line.
Argentina will now face Croatia in November's final - the fifth time they have reached that stage, without ever previously lifting the title.
