Iga Swiatek registers a double bagel as she strolls into the last 16 of the French Open on Saturday, while Coco Gauff wins an all-teenage battle with Mirra Andreeva.

Iga Swiatek inflicted a double bagel on a beleaguered Wang Xinyu as she strolled into the last 16 of the French Open on Saturday.

Yet to drop a set at Roland-Garros so far, the reigning champion dominated her Chinese counterpart in a 6-0 6-0 thrashing, taking a mere 51 minutes to get the job done.

Swiatek has now earned at least one bagel in all three of her French Open matches so far in 2023, having registered a pair of 6-4 6-0 wins over Cristina Bucsa and Claire Liu in the first and second round respectively.

The Pole's double bagel was only the fourth of its kind at the French Open since 2013, and she ended her scintillating success with 21 winners compared to a mere three for Xinyu.

Swiatek has been rewarded with a last-16 clash versus Ukraine's Lesia Tsurenko, who posted an almost identical score against Canada's Bianca Andreescu, storming to a 6-1 6-1 triumph.

Elsewhere, the battle of the young stars on Court Suzanne Lenglen saw 19-year-old Coco Gauff end Mirra Andreeva's magical run in a tense three-set affair.

Despite going down in the first set on a tie-breaker, Gauff stamped her authority on the clay during the second and third sets to prevail 6-7[5] 6-1 6-1 in just over two hours.

The pair traded three breaks apiece in the opening set before Andreeva brought up three set points in the tie-breaker - converting her third - but Gauff soon found her ruthless streak.

Andreeva would hold in her opening service games in the second and third set before being blown away by Gauff, but the 2007-born Russian might break into the top 100 by the close of play at Roland-Garros after making quite the statement in her first Grand Slam appearance.

Ons Jabeur and Beatriz Haddad Maia also battled back from a set down to advance on Saturday, with the former overcoming Olga Danilovic 4-6 6-4 6-2, while Haddad Maia eliminated Ekaterina Alexandrova 5-7 6-4 7-5.

The Brazilian will now pit her wits against Sara Sorribes Tormo in the fourth round, with the Spaniard receiving a bye after her third-round opponent - Elena Rybakina - withdrew due to illness shortly before their scheduled morning affair.

In the men's event, Alexander Zverev was made to dig incredibly deep against the USA's Frances Tiafoe, but the German 22nd seed crucially held his nerve in two tie-breakers to win 3-6 7-6[3] 6-1 7-6[5].

Meanwhile, Casper Ruud and Holger Rune remain on a collision course for an all-Scandinavian showdown, as the former bested Zhang Zhizhen 4-6 6-4 6-1 6-4 while Rune eased past Genaro Olivieri in straight sets 6-4 6-1 6-3.

However, American ninth seed Taylor Fritz - who shushed the crowd after beating home favourite Arthur Rinderknech on Thursday - was seen off 3-6 6-3 6-4 7-5 by Argentinian Francisco Cerundolo.
