The Serbian came under pressure in the opening set and was forced to save three break points.
However, she hung on to her own serve and found the broke that Putintseva couldn't midway through the set.
She held on to claim it 6-3 and this gave her the momentum she needed, while it clearly knocked Putintseva's confidence.
The former world number one broke her opponent at the first opportunity in the second set and went on to break her once more to confirm a routine win.
