David Nalbandian has advanced to the fourth round in Indian Wells after seeing off Janko Tipsarevic 6-3 3-6 6-3.
The Argentine clinched the first set after a break in the opening game before serving out at 5-3.
Tipsarevic battled back in the second, breaking early on to force a decider.
Nalbandian broke at 5-3 in the third and then served for the set, taking the match in one hour and 55 minutes.
The world number 74 goes on to face Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the next round for just the second time in their careers.
