Cameron Norrie defeats Nikoloz Basilashvili in three sets to become the first British player to win the Indian Wells Masters in California.

Cameron Norrie became the first British man to win the Indian Wells Masters title as he defeated Nikoloz Basilashvili in three sets in Sunday's final.

The 26-year-old - who came back from a set down against his Georgian opponent and three pairs of shoes being stolen - marched to a 3-6 6-4 6-1 win to take his maiden Masters 1000 title.

Norrie has displaced Dan Evans as British number one and now finds himself 16th in the world rankings, with the Johannesburg-born champion expressing his unbridled delight during his on-court interview.

Norrie told Amazon Prime: "I'm so happy, I can't even describe it. I can't really believe it. If you'd have told me I'd have won before the tournament started I wouldn't have believed you, so it's amazing.

"For a stage he went through and hit so many winners. It was tough for me to get some confidence. The rallies were really short and he was just blasting winners.

"When I made a couple of big shots in the 5-4 game in the second set it gave me a lot of confidence, and I was able to find my feet again, start moving again, and make the rallies physical like I've been doing all tournament and it worked in my favour."

Norrie is now set to take part in the Vienna Open, Paris Masters and Stockholm Open as he seeks to book a place in next month's ATP Finals.
