Great Britain's Cameron Norrie withdraws from his Canadian Open first-round match against Marcos Giron after pulling out of the Olympics singles with an injury.

British number two Cameron Norrie has withdrawn from the Canadian Open in Montreal, just a couple of weeks on from also pulling out of the Paris 2024 Olympics.

The former Wimbledon semi-finalist - who has endured a troubled 2024 campaign - was due to face the USA's Marcos Giron in Montreal after being forced to give up his Games dream for this year.

Norrie pulled out of his Olympics first-round match with Tallon Griekspoor, with the LTA confirming that he had picked up an injury, although they did not specify the nature or severity of his problem.

That unspecified issue appears to still be plaguing the world number 47, though, as he will no longer compete for Canadian Open glory, being replaced by Australia's James Duckworth.

Norrie has not played since losing to Rafael Nadal at the Swedish Open in the middle of July, and he is one of a host of notable players to pull out of Montreal, which has lost many stars due to Olympic commitments.

Novak Djokovic, Carlos Alcaraz, Iga Swiatek and Zheng Qinwen are among the other revered names to have withdrawn from the tournament, although Jannik Sinner and Jessica Pegula will defend their titles.

While Norrie has been forced to withdraw from a second competition in as many weeks, GB are represented in the men's competition by Jack Draper, who lost his Olympics second-round match to Taylor Fritz and has partnered up with Sinner for the Canadian Open men's doubles.

Draper and Sinner won their opening match against Sander Gille and Joran Vliegen - who were also defeated by Andy Murray and Dan Evans in Paris - on Tuesday, and he begins his singles campaign against Jordan Thompson on Wednesday afternoon.

The winner of that battle will take on second seed Alexander Zverev in round two, while Sinner and Draper will take on Alexander Bublik and Ben Shelton a few hours after the Briton's clash with Thompson.

In the women's section, British number one Katie Boulter is in action against American qualifier Bernarda Pera, and the 28-year-old is on course for a potential meeting with Aryna Sabalenka in round three.

Meanwhile, Harriet Dart - who earned her place in the main draw thanks to Wang Xinyu's withdrawal - takes on Russian 14th seed Diana Shnaider earlier in the day.
