John McEnroe has claimed that Nick Kyrgios has the ability to become a Grand Slam winner if he improves his attitude.
It was revealed on Thursday that Kyrgios would be third seed Andy Murray's first opponent when the US Open gets underway at Flushing Meadows.
The world number 37 has recorded a number of shock wins in Grand Slams, but he has often been criticised for his comments towards umpires and the 20-year-old was recently handed a suspension for an incident on court in Montreal when he told Stanislas Wawrinka that his girlfriend has been "banged" by Thanasi Kokkinakis.
"I think he could achieve winning Grand Slams, could be like one of the top players in the world," McEnroe told reporters.
"I think that's what he could achieve. Hopefully he'll get some better advice. I'd be happy to give him some and be supportive of this."
Kyrgios reached the third round of the US Open last year before losing to Tommy Robredo.
