Tennis legend Martina Navratilova has announced that she is "cancer-free" after being diagnosed with throat and breast cancers in January.

The 66-year-old was diagnosed with the stage one cancers two months ago after discovering an enlarged lymph node in her neck during the WTA Finals in November.

Navratilova quickly began treatment in New York and revealed the positive news during an interview with Piers Morgan on TalkTV, saying: "As far as they know I'm cancer-free."

The Czech–American will undergo more preventative radiation treatment over the next couple of weeks, and she admitted that she thought she may not still be around next Christmas.

"I was in a total panic for three days thinking I may not see next Christmas. The bucket list came into my mind of all the things I wanted to do," Navratilova added.

"And this may sound really shallow, but I was like, OK, 'which kick-ass car do I really want to drive if I live like a year?' I don't think the doctors do a very good job of telling you how the s*** is going to hit the fan."

During an illustrious playing career, Navratilova won a record 59 Grand Slam titles - 18 singles and 41 doubles honours - including nine Wimbledon singles crowns.
