It was a tight contest throughout that was dominated by the server. In the first set there were just two break points, which both came on Lopez's serve as he was able to hold firm.
The Spaniard was ahead for most of the first breaker, but it wasn't until his fourth set point that he converted the opener.
Lopez had a single match point on the Dimitrov serve in the second, but couldn't take it so another tie-break would be needed.
Unlike the first set, Dimitrov raced into a 6-0 lead before closing out the set 7-1 and forcing a decider.
Lopez made the first break of the game at the start of the third but was pegged back by Dimitrov in the eighth game.
In the third breaker, Dimitrov sneaked in front after a couple of loose Lopez groundstrokes, going on to win his fourth professional title ahead of Wimbledon starting next week.
