Tomas Berdych defeat boosts Andy Murray chances for London

Andy Murray sees his chances of reaching the ATP World Tour Finals boosted thanks to a first-round defeat for Tomas Berdych at the Valencia Open.

Andy Murray's chances of reaching the ATP World Tour Finals have been boosted by a first-round defeat for Tomas Berdych at the Valencia Open.

The world number six suffered an early exit from the tournament on Wednesday as he was beaten 3-6 2-6 by Spain's Pablo Andujar.

The result has seen the likes of Murray, Grigor Dimitrov and Kei Nishikori given a greater opportunity of making it into the top eight of the ATP rankings ahead of next month's season-ending event in the English capital.

Murray is in action later today when he faces Jurgen Melzer in his first-round match in Valencia.
