Fabio Fognini advances in Hamburg

Fabio Fognini sets up a German Open quarter-final clash with British number two Aljaz Bedene after beating Albert Ramos in three sets.

Fabio Fognini has booked his place in the quarter-finals of the German Open with a three-set victory over Albert Ramos.

The Italian world number 32 won the first set 6-2, but Ramos fought back to clinch the second 6-3 and take the match into a decider.

Fognini broke to go 4-2 up in the third before he was forced to save three break points. He then closed out the contest 6-2 3-6 6-3 with just over two hours played.

Waiting for Fognini in the last eight will be British number two Aljaz Bedene, who sealed his place in the quarters with a 7-6(2) 7-6(7) triumph over Roberto Bautista Agut.
