Roger Federer begins Swiss Indoors Basel campaign with comfortable win

Roger Federer has booked his place in the second round of the Swiss Indoors Basel tournament with a comfortable 6-1 6-2 win over Mikhail Kukushkin.

The top seed stormed into a 5-0 lead in the opening set, before wrapping it up within 22 minutes, saving two break points in the third game.

Federer broke Kukushkin's serve in the fifth and seventh games of the second set to secure victory in 55 minutes.

The Swiss will take on Philipp Kohlschreiber, who defeated Jerzy Janowicz 6-4 3-6 6-3, in round two.
