World number 44 Gael Monfils returned from a four-month injury absence to record a straight-sets victory over Olivier Rochus in the first round of the Moselle Open.
The Frenchman, who had not been in competitive action since May because of a knee problem, triumphed 6-3 6-2 in just 63 minutes.
He recorded 21 aces and won all 28 points behind his first serve.
Fellow Frenchman Nicolas Mahut or lucky loser Daniel Brands will provide the opposition for Monfils in round two.
