Garbine Muguruza defeats Timea Bacsinszky in straight sets

Garbine Muguruza wins the China Open after defeating Switzerland's Timea Bacsinszky in straight sets in the final.

Spaniard Garbine Muguruza battled past Timea Bacsinsky in straight sets to take the women's singles title at the China Open in Beijing.

Fifth seed Muguruza, 22, won five games in a row to take the first set, then came back from 2-0 down in the second set to close the 12th-seeded Swiss out by a 7-5 6-4 scoreline.

Bacsinsky, 26, came into the tournament after suffering four straight opening round losses in a row but upset Carla Suarez Navarro and Ana Ivanovic on the way to the final.

The win sees Murguruza rise to fourth in the WTA rankings, just one point off third place.
