Daniela Hantuchova has booked her place in the third round of the Madrid Open with a surprise 6-2 2-6 3-6 win over former Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova.
The Czech looked on course to make it seven straight wins over the Slovakian after coasting to a 6-2 win in the first set, but her form soon became erratic.
Unforced errors began to creep into Kvitova's game, and Hantuchova took full advantage with some shrewd use of top-spin, securing the second set 6-2 and the decider 6-3.
Kvitova made a total of 54 unforced errors throughout the contest, and that proved the difference between the players during the match, which lasted two hours and 13 minutes.
