Rafael Nadal has booked his place in the quarter-finals of the German Open thanks to a straight-sets triumph over Jiri Vesely.
The Spaniard will now face Pablo Cuevas of Uruguay for a spot in the last four in Hamburg.
Both players exchanged breaks at the start of the opening set before Nadal broke again to take a 2-1 lead. The world number 10 then held his nerve to close it out 6-4.
Nadal had a match point at 5-4 up in the second, but a double-fault allowed Vesely to fight back and force a tie-break. However, the 14-time Grand Slam champion came back to earn a gritty 6-4 7-6(2) victory.
