Kyle Edmund has been eliminated from the Winston-Salem Open after losing in the last eight to Steve Johnson.
The British number one had impressed during his opening two matches at the tournament, but American Johnson blitzed him 6-1 6-2 on Thursday.
Johnson stormed into a 5-0 lead inside 18 minutes and although Edmund finally held serve to get on the board, Johnson had no issue in seeing out the first set.
Edmund improved during the second set, but the 23-year-old could not take any of his three break points and it allowed Johnson to ease to victory in under 65 minutes.
Next up for Edmund is the US Open, with Italy's Paolo Lorenzi standing in his way in the first round.
