Andy Murray has lost in straight sets to Janko Tipsarevic in the Mubadala Tennis Championship in Abu Dhabi.
The US Open champion was making his first appearance of the season at the exhibition event in the United Arab Emirates.
However, Murray failed to produce his top game against his Serbian opponent, who secured a 6-3 6-4 triumph over the 25-year-old Scot.
Tipsarevic will now play Nicolas Almagro in the semi-finals while Murray will move on to Australia to continue his preparations for next month's Australian Open.
