A tie-break was required to determine a winner, which eventually went the way of Williams 7-5.
The American appeared to gain confidence from taking the lead and went on to win six games on the trot to wrap up the win.
She will take on number one seed Victoria Azarenka in tomorrow's final after the Belarusian defeated Agnieszka Radwanska earlier today.
