Dominic Thiem had no problems getting past qualifier Lu Yen-Hsun in the first round of the Shanghai Masters.
The 22-year-old managed to claim a 6-3 6-3 victory to set up a second-round match against either Andrey Kuznetsov or Feliciano Lopez.
Games went by the way of serve early in the first set, but it was Thiem who broke to take a 4-3 lead, and despite Lu saving three break points, the Austrian was able to take the set in China.
After going a set down, Lu struggled to cause a threat and he lost serve in the fourth game to give Thiem a comfortable 3-1 lead in the second set.
Lu showed some fight as the set went on, creating two break-point opportunities, but he failed to take them as Thiem wrapped up the match and gained a place in the next round.
