Rafael Nadal could be fit in time to play at this summer's Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, according to his uncle and coach Toni Nadal.
The 14-time Grand Slam winner has struggled with a wrist injury in recent months, being forced to pull out of the French Open early and withdraw from Wimbledon entirely.
However, Toni Nadal was encouraged by the Spaniard's session with Andy Murray on Wednesday and believes that he will at least be able to attempt to play in Brazil having missed out on the London Games through injury four years ago.
"We began to intensify his training in order to be ready be in time for the first round. Training with Andy Murray was a really hard first time with another top player and we are happy. Things worked out well," he told reporters.
"In Rio, we will start training with the maximum-level players and see how Rafael will respond to the difficulty of the competition.
"There are doubts about his game. I believe that is normal - these are the same questions we've always had after a period of inactivity. Starting with the Olympics is not easy but if we are lucky in the draw, he can improve step by step."
Nadal's teammate David Ferrer also told Spanish radio station Cadena Ser: "I will travel with Rafa on Sunday to Rio. His situation is more delicate. It's never easy to come back after an injury. He will see how he feels."
Nadal, who is scheduled to be Spain's flagbearer at the Games, has been entered into the singles, men's doubles and mixed doubles in Rio.
