British number two Cameron Norrie has announced his withdrawal from this year's US Open due to a forearm injury.
The former Wimbledon semi-finalist - who has struggled for consistency throughout the 2024 season - has not played a top-level match since the Swedish Open in the middle of July, where he lost to Rafael Nadal in round two.
Norrie was due to compete at the Paris 2024 Olympics for Great Britain, but his forearm problem prevented him from playing at the Games, and he has missed the start of the hard-court season as a result.
The 28-year-old pulled out of both the Canadian Open and Cincinnati Masters to give himself the best shot at recovering for the final Grand Slam of the year, but a comeback at Flushing Meadows proved a step too far.
Norrie confirmed on Instagram on Friday evening that he would not be able to compete at this year's US Open, admitting that he is taking longer to recover from his injury than he initially anticipated.
"I have been working hard to get my body to full health - unfortunately my forearm injury is not recovering as soon as I would have hoped," the former British number one wrote.
"Therefore I will not be able to compete in this year's US open. I'll take some rest and recharge. Can't wait to get back to competing like a dog 🐕⚡️."
Norrie reached the third round of the 2023 US Open, prior to which he achieved his best finish at the tournament to date in 2022, losing to Russia's Andrey Rublev in the fourth round.
How are GB's other US Open hopefuls shaping up?
With Norrie watching on from the medical room and Andy Murray calling time on his tennis career, Jack Draper and Dan Evans are the only British men to earn direct entry into the main draw of the US Open.
The former has made waves at Cincinnati this week, shocking Stefanos Tsitsipas in his second-round encounter, and he faces Felix Auger-Aliassime on Friday for a spot in the quarter-finals.
Meanwhile, all of Katie Boulter, Harriet Dart and Emma Raducanu are in the women's main draw, but the former two both suffered first-round collapses in Cincinnati to Magda Linette and Yulia Putintseva respectively.
Raducanu opted to skip the Olympics and also turned down the chance to go through qualifying in Cincinnati, meaning that she has not played since losing to Paula Badosa in the Citi Open quarter-finals on August 2.
