Losing finalist Roberta Vinci has said that she is delighted for Flavia Pennetta.
The Italian pair met in the US Open final, which Pennetta won 7-6 6-2 before announcing her retirement.
"It was tough, I passed the 24 hours with a lot of things on my mind. But I am really happy and really happy for Flavia," Vinci told reporters.
"It's tough to play against a player who you have known for a long time. I tried to play my best, but Flavia played unbelievable and I have to say congrats to her."
